ANNOUNCEMENTS

Greetings Classmates,

First of all, let me take this opportunity to wish you and yours a Happy and Healthy New Year!!

I have been asked by several fellow classmates to post an announcement as you are making your plans for the year ahead.

Please consider setting aside the second Friday in August (August 9) to join your 1962 classmates at an informal gathering at The Pub in Charles City at 5:30 p.m.  This is motivated by the realization that having reunions only every 5 years, at our age, feels too long between gatherings.

So let's meet for an informal evening of sharing memories, life events, etc.  No program, no fuss.  Just an opportunity to reminisce.  Whether you live in Charles City or further away, we hope you will include a trip down memory lane in your summer plans.

Here's hoping to see you on Friday evening, August 9, 2024, starting at 5:30 p.m.  We will send out reminder notices as the date approaches.

Your '62 Classmates

I am sorry to advise you that I have just learned that our classmate Kathy Halloran passed away earlier this week.  I have no further information at this time, but will advise you as more information becomes available.

Galene Allison Sobolik's email address is g.sobolik2358@gmail.com.

For those of you receiving mailed directories, this address has been added.  If you received your directory at the class reunion, please add it.

Also, Galene may have been the only one who took systematic photos of our 60th Reunion at the Elks. If you are interested, please contact her.

The reunion was a terrific, fun event.  Thanks to all who assisted in making it a success.

Your '62 Classmates

It has been suggested that I post a list of the classmates who are helping to plan our class's reunion on August 12 - 14 of next year.  That strikes me as a good idea, so here is the rather lengthy listing of those who have been involved in doing the planning, in no particular order:

Mary Catherine (Cooper) Savage

Linda (Anderson) Haley

Char (Auringer) Lubbert

Karen Eggert

Bruce Greenzweig

Carol (Keith) Brautigam

Kathleen (Klemesrud) Jacobs

Judy (Melcher) Coyne

Carol (Meyers) Tyler

 Wendell "Mike" Milligan

Ron Noah

Mona (Riden) Staudt

Jeanne (Venz) Moser

Kathryn (Guenther) Christenson
Dave Scrimger

Rich Bromley

As this makes clear, the planning is involving a large number of classmates.  Thank you all for your efforts.  And the work goes on.  I'm sure that if others wish to volunteer, their assistance would be welcome.

One additional observation: Seeing the number of people involved in planning the upcoming reunion makes especially apparent the huge debt of gratitude we owe the people who planned the preceding 11 class reunions. So to those involved in planning prior reunions, a huge THANK YOU!

And to everyone, a wish that you and yours have a happy and healthy holiday season and year ahead.

If you have not already RSVP'd and you are planning to attend, or you are considering attending our 60th High School Class Reunión on August 12 -14, or if you only need a Directory, please be sure to respond by July 15 so there can be ample planning time for the Reunion Committee.
Thanks

I wanted to leave a short message to all classmates. We will miss the 60 year reunion as we will be in Hilton Head. Our timeshare has been booked for over a year. My wife and I are doing well and enjoying retirement, grandkids, traveling, etc. We spend our summers in Ohio and winters in our villa in Florida. Our grandkids are growing up as the youngest graduated high school this year. Sorry we will miss the reunion and all that will be attending. We will keep our schedule open for the next one.

Judy (Melcher) Coyne and Carol Keith) Brautigam have mailed you preliminary information about our upcoming 60th High School Reunion scheduled for August 12, 13 and 14, 2022, Charles City.  The mailing includes a self-addressed, stamped envelope for you to use in letting the planning committee know whether or not you and family/friends might attend.  The mailing also requests that you give the committee your ideas of what you would like to experience at the Reunion.  We are also seeking contact information for several of our classmates.

Please try to respond by December 1st so there is adequate planning time and time to track down classmates for whom we presently don't have current addresses.  Your ideas and information will add to a great 60th Reunion.

I am pleased to report that preparation for our 60th Class Reunion, scheduled for August 12 - 14, 2022,   is proceeding very well.  To date Carol (Keith) Brautigam and Judy (Melcher) Coyne have received nearly 50 responses to the letters they had sent out to class members in October.

IF YOU HAVE NOT YET RESPONDED, PLEASE DO SO AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

35 of those who have responded so far have indicated that they intend to attend the reunion, along with 29 family members.  Three others responded "Maybe."  Nine indicated that at least at present, it doesn't look as if they will be able to attend.  (Hopefully as the dates grow nearer, they will find a way.)

Unfortunately, we have not been able to contact everyone in the class.  Envelopes were returned "unable to forward, address unknown" for these three classmates:

Dawn Barth,

John Farrell,

Norma Hirsh.

And we are still missing addresses for these five classmates:

Vicky Brown Marlow,

Jerry Cox,

Ed Enright,

Larry Leach,

LeRoy McDonald.

IF YOU KNOW HOW TO CONTACT ANY OF THESE CLASSMATES, PLEASE LET US KNOW.

The responses to Carol and Judy's letter had many ideas for the reunion.  Virtually everyone wants to go on a tour of the city, and that is being organized.

Also accommodating special food needs due to allergies, dietary restrictions, etc.  Also bringing memorabilia to display at the Elks Club barbecue, such as grade school class photos, books about Charles City, tornado photos, etc.  And, of course, honoring our deceased classmates.

These and other responses have given those planning the reunion a lot to think about and arrange.

We will keep you advised to developments as the planning process continues.  In the meantime, be sure to put the reunion dates (August 12 - 14, 2022) on your calendars.

Finally, HAPPY THANKSGIVING to all!

Rich

Ya know. I think our class may be the most successful to graduate from Ce-Ce High. Maybe it was the quality education and teachers, our parents, or the stars just came together. Our class graduated an unusually high number of professionals: Doctors, Lawyers, Engineers, entrepreneurs, Athletes, Architects, Nurses, teachers; . . . so many successful in whatever their life’s work. More important; a set of true family and community values, and a belief in freedom.
I don’t think any of our classmates ended up in prison. I believe that if any of our classmates needed help, we would rally for them to the best of our ability.
We can be proud of what the Class of ’62 have contributed over the last 50 years.  - Dennis Pagels

Thank you, thank you! We received enough money to extend the class website for a full ten years. When the "bowl" came around, your generous donations, were overwhelming. Let's continue to make good use of the website.
